From the very beginning of the Felician Sisters' Congregation in Krakow, the poor were knocking at the gates of their monastery asking for help. The sisters served them meals at the gates, but the number of those in need was still growing and more organized action had to be taken. Thus, in 1872, the Community Kitchen was born. The kitchen was created and managed for 60 years by Sister Maria Samuela Piksza, its current patroness. Over the 150 years of its existence, it has changed its name several times, but has always fulfilled the founder's request to feed the hungry.
In 2013, after the opening of the St. Padre Pio Aid Society building at ul. Smolensk, the Community Kitchen moved from the old headquarters to the first floor of the new Center. I am very glad that we now have such a modern kitchen, in this form it will be able to serve a much larger group of people in need," said Alina Ploshchitsa, the abbess of the Felician sisters, on the occasion of the opening of the new building of the plant.
Currently, more than 200 people come to the canteen every day for a hot lunch. The menu is varied - a choice of several meat dishes, salads, side dishes and soups - all freshly prepared on site.
Although the kitchen has undergone significant changes over 140 years of work, the Felician sisters are always guided by the thought of the founder of their community, Blessed Maria Angela Trushkovskaya: "Help everyone without exception, this is what your calling obliges you to do, do not exclude anyone, because everyone is our neighbor."
